A Husband, Father, GrandFather, Great Grandfather, WWII Naval Veteran and friend, Vern was known by many names. He taught me at a young age the many tenants of life: how to manage money, run a business, treat people fairly and with respect, and of course... eat copious amounts of ice cream ;).   My Sundays will never be the same without you Grandpa.

  1. I have so many wonderful memories I don't even know where to begin. There aren't many family memories in my life that Grandpa isn't a part of. Whether it was a gymnastics meet, a parade, a road trip to California, a birthday, Christmas morning, sleepovers at his and Grandma's house, buying my first car or just Sunday dinner, Grandpa was there. Every man I ever dated I always compared to Grandpa, hoping that they would treat me as wonderfully as he treated Grandma. That is a TOUGH bar that he set! I also have fond memories of him dancing at my wedding with Grandma......and all the ladies in the wedding party;-) Oh how he loved to dance. I believe that's how he and Grandma met. He was the most kind, generous, loving and respectful man I've ever known. I'm so grateful to have had 34 years of knowing him and so many wonderful memories. I'm also thankful that he got to meet and spend time with his 2 great-grandchildren (Connor & Brendan). He loved them so much and I can only hope and pray that they turn out to be as honorable as he was. He was also pretty "cool".....he had a tattoo and I don't even have one:-) I am so lucky and proud to say that he was my Grandfather. It was also special knowing that I was his only Granddaughter. I will miss you deeply, Grandpa. Visits home to Phoenix will never be the same.

  3. My memories of my uncle were always full of happiness and good times. The fishing trips to Minn. and trips to Omaha fill my mind with special memories. I remember Uncle Vern at the grill cooking steaks and Aunt Rosemary in the kitchen cooking up a selection of foods that would make your mouth water. Later throwing the softball in the back yard or a trip to shop.
I remember the time I gave everyone a scare at the July party at the farm. I fell and was hurt showing off in front of all my girl cousins.
Uncle Vern ran with his car from neighbor to neighbor to find the phone that had the line tied up. Days of party lines. Finally the doctor could be called.
Being around Uncle Vern was always peaceful and and pleasant. He was a great example of a husband, father and friend.
    I will miss him deeply.
Aunt Rosemary, I will be praying for your comfort and peace. Love you.
